Week 1- Day at the Beach

This week, we are going to visit everyone’s favorite summer spot… the beach! We will make a vacation inspired thick and glossy slime and a “slime catcher” (a.k.a. sun catcher), so you cannot only upcycle slime but also add a touch of beauty to your window. Below is info for camp to get you ready and a list of materials we provide and a few extras you will need. See you on the beach!

ZOOMING 411:

  • Make sure your full name is displayed
  • Have all your supplies ready and near you (one of the bags are for “all weeks,” so please make sure you have that along with Week 1)
  • Try to get on the Zoom 5 minutes early
  • Please stay on mute during class
  • Raise your hand for questions (if it’s dire when we teach) but we prefer to have write us the chat box so we don’t lose too much time
  • Have your activator made and ready to go (a how to video is below in the next section)
  • HAVE FUN

Slime of The Week:

This week we will be making a beach themed Thick and Glossy slime! Thick and glossy is one of the OG textures of slime - it is the stretchiest and best texture for poking and making bubbles. We are going to share our recipe with this class, taught by Camp Counselor Sasha (a.k.a. @someotherslime). Once you know how to make a good thick and glossy, you can easily transform it into other textures too. You will be a slime expert in no time!

Provided Materials:

  • 1 Bottle of School Glue
  • 1 Bottle of Glue All
  • Activator (mix 1 tsp of Borax powder with 1 cup of hot water until it fully dissolves)
  • 1 Bottle of Scent (your choice!)
  • Liquid Watercolor Pack
  • Charms of your choice
  • Slime Container

Need to Gather:

  • Vegetable Glycerin or Lotion (any type of lotion works)
  • 1 Mixing Bowl
  • Spoon or Spatula
  • 1 tsp measuring spoon

Craft of the Week:

This week we will be making a Slime Catcher! Decorating and drying slime in the lids of old jars can turn them into beautiful pieces of art. You can use all different types and create marbled beauties to hang in your windows to catch some rays and remind yourself not only of camp but creating less waste.

Provided Materials:

  • 4 oz Clear Slime
  • Liquid Watercolor Pack
  • Packet of Glitter Charms

Need to Gather:

  • Any additional decorations you want to add (optional)
  • Container lid (A glass jar lid, a slime container lid - ideally it’s not too large or deep; 3.5” diameter is perfect)
  • Ribbon or String (optional to hang)

Slime Catcher Instructions:

  1. Take a small handful of clear slime and put into the lid
  2. Press the clear slime in so that it lays flat and make sure the entire bottom of the lid is covered. It should be around 1/2" thick
  3. Add your liquid watercolor and mix with a toothpick, spoon, or your finger. Use as many colors as you would like
  4. Add any charms or additional decorations you would like
  5. Let dry for at least 48 hours
  6. Once the Slimecatcher is dry you can take it out of the lid, use a hole punch to put a hole in the top, and hang it on your window with some ribbon or string!

Sounds of Sloomoo:

We’ll also be playing our theme song and discussing ASMR. Below is a link to both - the ASMR is the same track we have in our space, where you can listen with ear phones while you play with slime. You’re the only people we’ve ever sent this to!!!
